The Article outlines five different types of museums — Object focused, narrative, Visitor centered, Community and National.  These types are based on intention rather than content and each has pioneered techniques borrowed by the others.  No museum is completely and exclusively one of these but they can be identified on a continuum.  There is a companion power point that can be found on slide share and on this website.  A verison of the article that appeared in Curator is attached.
