In 1998 I was asked by Museum News (Volume 77, #4 July/August 36-37) to write about my museum career. A group of women who were emerging museum professionals were part of the group. Surprisingly (to me) my piece was the only personal autobiographic piece. The others were more professional. I got some grief from readers for being so revealing which they felt was unprofessional. It was with a jolt that I understood that my personal and professional life was intertwined and not at all seperable. I have never regretted that decision nor rethought the transparency of my personal life within my work experience.
I am now (2015) beginning to write a larger memoir and this piece will be used as part of the process.
